Reading is so important in all areas of school (and life) that I am requiring my students to do 75 minutes of free reading at home each week. The child can read independently or be read to. Take some time to sit down with your child and listen to them read, discuss the book they are reading, or read your book while they're reading theirs.
This year your child may have homework from time to time. It helps reinforce the day's lesson, plus also teaches the child some responsibility. An assignment given one day is due the next day, unless told otherwise. If an assignment is not completed and handed in on time, 10% is deducted for each day that it is late.
We will be working with multiplication and division quite a bit this year so please start reviewing the basic facts with your child. Help them get a "jump start" on math, then when we get to multiplication they will have fewer problems.
Thanks. Mrs. Heck
